Former President Donald Trump addressed the recent assassination attempt against him, framing it as a testament to his significant influence. Speaking at a rally in Flint, Michigan, alongside Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R-AR), Trump reflected on the incident, suggesting that his bold policy proposals, such as new tariffs on automobiles, have made him a target.

“I make statements like that, and then I get shot at,” Trump said, referencing his comments on tariffs. “Only consequential presidents get shot at. You have to be brave, or else we won’t have a country left.”

Trump also showed a more lighthearted side, downplaying the severity of the situation while acknowledging the risks that come with being a high-profile figure. “Being president is a little bit dangerous,” he said with a chuckle. “It’s a tough business, but we have to keep it safe.”

The former president provided a detailed account of the events surrounding the assassination attempt, describing how a Secret Service agent spotted a rifle, specifically an AK-47, protruding from a bush. “This guy was all set to do his thing,” Trump said, recounting how the agent intervened and the suspect was ultimately shot and apprehended.

Trump praised the Secret Service for their bravery and called for increased support, including additional personnel. “These guys do a great job, but they need more people,” he said.

Trump also commended a woman who played a crucial role in the suspect’s capture, following his car and helping lead authorities to his location. “It’s a miracle,” Trump said, noting that the woman’s actions were instrumental in bringing the situation to a swift conclusion.
