Former President Donald Trump revealed on Monday that he received a call from President Joe Biden following his second assassination attempt, describing the conversation as “very nice.” The two leaders discussed Secret Service protection, with Trump stating that Biden “couldn’t have been nicer.”

The White House corroborated Trump’s account, characterizing the call as “cordial” and stating that Biden expressed relief that Trump was safe.

Biden also addressed the issue of Secret Service protection, suggesting that the agency may require additional resources. “I think Congress should respond to their needs if they, in fact, need more Service people,” Biden told reporters.

The president also condemned political violence, echoing his previous statements after the first assassination attempt on Trump’s life in July. “There is no place for political violence or any violence in our country,” Biden emphasized. “I have directed my team to ensure that the Secret Service has every resource, capability, and protective measures to ensure the former president’s continued safety.”

The recent assassination attempt was allegedly carried out by 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, who brought a scoped rifle to Trump’s West Palm Beach golf course in Florida. Routh was arrested outside the golf course after Secret Service agents spotted him in the shrubbery and fired four to six shots. The Secret Service confirmed that the alleged would-be assassin did not exchange gunfire and did not have a line of sight on Trump.

According to reports, Routh has donated to Democrat politicians several times since 2020 and became a radical activist for Ukraine after Russia invaded the country in 2022.

Trump has blamed Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for the violence against him, stating that their rhetoric is “causing me to be shot at.”
