California Attorney General Bonta Gears Up for Legal Action Against Trump Agenda in the Event of His Victory

California Attorney General Rob Bonta is gearing up to file a series of lawsuits in the event that former President Donald Trump is re-elected in 2024. Bonta is analyzing Trump’s potential second-term agenda and strategizing ways to challenge it, following in the footsteps of his predecessor, Xavier Becerra. Becerra, who returned from Congress to take on the role of California Attorney General, famously sued the Trump administration in various liberal federal jurisdictions during Trump’s first term in office.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Bonta and his team are specifically focusing on potential legal action related to environmental, immigration, and civil rights issues if Trump defeats President Biden. Bonta, a Democrat who is considering a run for governor, is studying the more than 100 lawsuits filed by Becerra against Trump policies. Additionally, Bonta is looking at a document called “Project 2025” drafted by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank aligned with Trump, which outlines Trump’s potential policy goals for a second term.

When questioned about Bonta’s plans, a spokesperson for the Republican National Committee criticized California liberals for attempting to push their agenda but expressed confidence in Trump’s ability to continue his efforts to “make America great again.” Despite these preparations, Bonta’s office did not respond to inquiries about their actions to protect the civil rights of Jews on college campuses in the wake of antisemitic incidents in California.
