Reports indicate that Hamas has decided to delay the release of additional hostages until Israel allows aid trucks to enter Gaza. The radical Islamic group claims that Israel breached the terms of the cease-fire agreement. According to Haaretz.com and Axios, Hamas specifically demanded access for aid trucks into northern Gaza.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on social media that 13 Israeli hostages and seven foreigners, including women and children, would be released. This announcement was made by spokesperson Majed Al Ansari on Twitter.
In another development, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency accused Hamas of stealing fuel and relief supplies, which Hamas denied. Israeli and UN officials confirmed the theft, as reported by Axios journalist Barak Ravid.
Hamas recently released 25 hostages taken during an attack on Oct. 7 as part of a deal brokered by Qatar. In return, Israel is releasing 150 Palestinian prisoners. There are also reports of Hamas firing rockets into Israel at the start of the cease-fire.
The Israeli Defense Forces launched military operations in Gaza following a terrorist attack by Hamas on southern Israel in October. This attack resulted in numerous casualties.
