A tense situation is unfolding at the Arista Flats apartment complex in Broomfield, where police are responding to an active shooting.

As of 8 a.m. Thursday, officers from the Broomfield Police Department were on the scene at 8200 Arista Place, near the intersection of Wadsworth Parkway and the former 1stBank Center. Authorities have issued a reverse emergency notification to nearby residents, instructing them to take shelter in place, while also conducting targeted evacuations in the area.

The surrounding area has been deemed “very dangerous” by police, who report that shots are still being fired. The situation is fluid, with SWAT teams and crisis negotiators working to bring the situation under control.

North Metro Fire Rescue is providing support to Broomfield police at the scene. Meanwhile, Jefferson Academy Secondary School, located in close proximity to the complex, has been placed on secured status. This means that while classes are proceeding as usual, the school’s doors are locked, and no one is allowed to enter or exit the building.
