On Monday’s “America Reports” broadcast, Delaware Gov. John Carney, a surrogate for the Harris-Walz campaign, weighed in on Sen. Bernie Sanders’ assessment of Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential bid. Carney agreed with Sanders that Harris has undergone a transformation as a candidate, shifting her focus to appeal to a specific segment of undecided voters.
When asked about Harris’ stance on fracking, Carney pointed to Sanders’ recent comments, in which the senator acknowledged that Harris’ views differ from his own, but expressed confidence in her pragmatism. Sanders had stated, “I don’t think she’s abandoning her ideals… Her views are not mine, but I do consider her a progressive.”
Co-host John Roberts pressed Carney on whether Harris would reinstate her previous support for a fracking ban if elected. Carney sidestepped the question, instead emphasizing that Harris now supports allowing fracking, despite her past statements to the contrary. He attributed this shift to Harris’ evolution as a candidate, noting that she is now running on President Joe Biden’s record, which Carney believes is a winning platform.
