During an appearance on FNC’s “Hannity” on Friday, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, criticized the political motivations behind the ongoing Trump trials in New York State. Jordan accused Democrats of attempting to keep former President Donald Trump tied up in legal battles in order to prevent him from campaigning for the 2024 presidential election while keeping President Joe Biden “in the basement.”
Jordan highlighted a House Judiciary Committee report that criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for allowing his political motivations to drive the prosecution of Trump. According to the report, Bragg used a questionable legal theory to pursue felony charges against Trump, even though the alleged actions would have only been considered misdemeanors in New York and the statute of limitations had already expired.
The report also detailed how an assistant D.A., Mark Pomeranz, who had a vendetta against Trump, convinced Bragg to move forward with the case even after realizing there was no substantial evidence. Jordan pointed out the unfairness in allowing convicted perjurer Michael Cohen to testify against Trump while imposing a gag order on the former president.
Overall, Jordan criticized the trials as politically motivated tactics by Democrats to undermine Trump and benefit Biden’s chances in the upcoming election.
