Harris’s Fundraising Momentum Continues to Build, Outpacing Trump’s Efforts

The Kamala Harris campaign is celebrating a major fundraising milestone, raking in a record-breaking $361 million in donations last month. This staggering sum not only outpaces former President Donald Trump’s August haul of $141 million, but also marks the largest monthly total of the 2024 election cycle.

A significant portion of Harris’s donors were first-time contributors, with 1.3 million individuals making their inaugural donation to the campaign in August. According to a senior adviser, 75% of these donors did not contribute to the campaign during the previous election cycle.

In contrast, Trump’s campaign reported a respectable but lower total of $141 million in August, with 25% of donors being first-time contributors. The former president’s campaign has seen steady growth in fundraising figures throughout the year, but Harris’s surge in popularity since becoming the Democratic nominee has given her a significant edge.

Harris’s campaign has been riding a wave of enthusiasm since she took the top spot on the Democratic ticket in late July. Her impressive fundraising numbers have allowed the campaign to build a substantial war chest, with $404 million in cash on hand. Trump’s campaign, meanwhile, has nearly $300 million at its disposal.

The average donation to the Harris campaign during her first 11 days as nominee was $68, according to the Business Standard. In contrast, the Trump campaign reported an average donation of $56 in August.

With its robust fundraising totals, the Harris campaign is now in a position to support down-ballot Democratic candidates, announcing a $25 million infusion of funds to aid in their election efforts.
