Controversy has erupted over a high school 400m race in Portland, where a transgender competitor surged ahead of his female opponents to claim victory.

Aayden Gallagher, a 10th-grader at McDaniel High School who identifies as a girl, dominated the Portland Interscholastic League Championship Semi-Finals, winning the girls’ 400 meters and securing second place in the 200 meters.

Despite criticism from some, the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) has approved Gallagher’s participation, citing their commitment to providing a fair and safe environment for all students.

The OSAA’s rules emphasize the importance of allowing students to compete based on their asserted gender identity and promoting equality in interscholastic activities.
