A man in Sacramento was arrested after giving a homeless woman $20 to watch his granddaughter while he went to a bar. Jason Warren, the grandfather, was reportedly highly intoxicated when he approached deputies for help in finding his 7-year-old granddaughter, whom he claimed had been kidnapped. Warren admitted to giving the money to the 34-year-old homeless woman, Lauren Jope, whom he trusted like family. While Warren spent four hours in a bar, Jope took care of the girl, leading to a search operation by the sheriff’s office. Jope and the girl were eventually found safe in a parking lot, and the girl received a medical check by the fire department. Despite the incident, Jope was praised as a “guardian angel” by the authorities. Warren was arrested and is facing charges of felony child endangerment. The girl was later returned to her aunt, who had custody of her, after clearance from Child Protective Services.
