New York City Mayor Eric Adams has revealed that discussions are taking place between the mayor’s office and the New York City Department of Correction regarding the possibility of former President Donald Trump being jailed in the state. Adams made this announcement during a press conference on Tuesday, stating that the Department of Correction and Rikers Island would be prepared in case Trump is jailed for violating a gag order in his New York hush money trial.

Adams expressed confidence in the department’s commissioner to handle any situation that may arise on Rikers Island, stating that they are professionals who will be ready to manage the situation. He emphasized the need to adjust to whatever challenges come their way in the realm of law enforcement, but noted that dealing with hypothetical situations is not ideal.

Drawing on recent events such as Harvey Weinstein’s transfer to the medical ward at Rikers Island, Adams highlighted the Department of Correction’s ability to handle high-profile cases. Trump is currently facing charges of falsifying business records related to hush money payments made by his former attorney to Stormy Daniels. Despite pleading not guilty to all 34 counts, Trump has repeatedly violated a gag order issued by Judge Juan Merchan, leading to threats of jail time if the violations continue.

Trump has portrayed himself as a victim of a biased justice system and expressed willingness to sacrifice his freedom in defense of free speech. He has stated that he values the Constitution above all else and is prepared to face any consequences of his actions.
