A violent altercation in the Bronx left a New York City Police Department officer with a bloodied face and a suspect in custody. The incident occurred on Thursday when the officer attempted to intervene in a dispute between the suspect and a group of young people on the corner of Rosedale and Randall Avenues.

According to authorities and police sources, the 41-year-old suspect, who is on probation, allegedly punched the officer in the face, causing her to fall to the ground. The officer’s partner quickly intervened, grabbing the suspect and pinning him to the ground.

Video footage of the incident shows the officer struggling to subdue the suspect, who resists arrest and tries to break free. The officer is seen striking the suspect in the face while attempting to handcuff him, causing his pants to fall down and exposing his backside.

Bystanders watched the scene unfold, some of whom can be heard laughing and shouting as the officer finally manages to subdue the suspect. Two people at the scene helped the injured officer to her feet, and she was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a cut lip. She is listed in stable condition.

The suspect has a history of run-ins with the law, and this incident is just the latest example of the dangers faced by NYPD officers. In April 2023, a suspect attacked an NYPD officer from behind, hitting her in the head with a bottle. The suspect in that case had 11 prior arrests.

The incident also highlights the growing trend of violence against NYPD officers. According to reports, police officers in New York City have suffered a 32% increase in injuries so far this year compared to 2022.
