A pastor narrowly escaped a shooting attempt at a church service when the gunman’s weapon jammed. Bernard Junior Polite, 26, entered Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock and pointed a gun at the Rev. Glenn Germany. Deacon Clarence McCallister intervened, tackling Polite and holding him until police arrived. Polite claimed that “spirits” told him to carry out the attack and apologized afterwards. The pastor forgave him, noting Polite’s apparent mental illness. Polite faces charges for aggravated assault and attempted homicide. Police later discovered a body in his home, believed to be his uncle. The pastor’s wife emphasized the importance of forgiveness in light of the incident.
