Pelosi’s Mixed Signals on Her Relationship with Biden

In a rare prime-time interview, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) seemed uncertain about the current state of her relationship with President Joe Biden, following his surprise decision to suspend his reelection bid.

When asked by CNN host Dana Bash if “everything was OK” with her relationship with Biden, Pelosi hesitated, saying “You’d have to ask him.” She then added, “I hope so,” before expressing her long-standing admiration and respect for the president.

Bash pressed on, inquiring about the recent statements from several lawmakers close to Pelosi, including Adam Schiff, Jamie Raskin, and Zoe Lofgren, who had publicly suggested that it was time for Biden to step aside. Pelosi firmly denied any involvement in orchestrating an effort to persuade Biden to drop out of the race.

“I have hundreds of allies in Congress, and I had nothing to do with that,” Pelosi insisted. Despite rumors to the contrary, Pelosi has consistently maintained that she did not play a role in convincing Biden to abandon his reelection bid.

As one of the most influential Democrats in the country, Pelosi had reportedly expressed private concerns to Biden about his chances of winning a second term, particularly in the aftermath of his first presidential debate. However, Pelosi has repeatedly denied any involvement in an internal campaign to convince Biden to relinquish his grip on the presidency, and she reiterated this denial during the interview.
