A San Francisco woman named Aziza Graves was found guilty of stealing over $60,000 worth of merchandise from a Target store in a self-checkout scam. She now faces up to three years in prison. Graves had been repeatedly stealing from the same Target location at Stonestown Galleria between October 2020 and November 2021 by pretending to pay for items at self-checkout machines with a single coin or bill. She was caught by San Francisco Police Department officers who observed her leaving the store and selling the stolen goods at UN Plaza. Graves was arrested in November 2021 and accused of stealing from Target over 120 visits. She was charged with multiple counts of theft but ultimately convicted of one felony count of grand theft and 53 misdemeanor counts of petty theft. District Attorney Brooke Jenkins emphasized the impact of such thefts on retailers and vowed to prosecute those involved. Graves is currently awaiting sentencing.
