VP’s Stepdaughter Caught Up in Security Incident in New York City

A tense encounter unfolded in New York City’s Tribeca neighborhood on Tuesday, involving Ella Emhoff, the stepdaughter of Vice President Kamala Harris, and a man identified as Harry Heymann, 45. The incident began when Heymann, described as an individual who closely monitors police activity, became agitated over a Secret Service vehicle parked outside a restaurant where Emhoff was having lunch.

Heymann’s ire was sparked by the vehicle’s parking location, which he believed was in violation of regulations. He proceeded to remove decals from the license plate of the unmarked Secret Service vehicle, prompting plainclothes agents to intervene and take him into custody.

The incident has drawn attention to the Secret Service’s protocols and response to potential security threats. The agency has faced scrutiny in recent times, particularly in the wake of the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. MSNBC highlighted several instances where the Secret Service was caught off guard, including a 2023 incident in which a would-be carjacker confronted the security detail of Naomi Biden.
