Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has spoken out about the shocking case of a 9-year-old Arizona boy who was found decomposing on a couch in a squalid home, saying the child “never had a chance.” The boy’s father, 38-year-old Joseph Gregory Antonsen, has been arrested and charged with child abuse in connection with the incident.

According to reports, the home where the child was found was in a state of disarray, with no running water or functioning toilets. The house was also filled with trash, creating a hazardous environment for the child.

Sheriff Nanos revealed that his department has struggled to find any records of the child’s existence, with the exception of a medical record from when the child was inoculated at the age of 2. “We have no school records, no public records of any kind,” Nanos said. “It’s really sad.”

The cause of the child’s death has not been disclosed, and the investigation is ongoing. The sheriff’s department is working to piece together the circumstances surrounding the child’s tragic death.
