The deadline for submitting signed petitions to the Missouri secretary of state’s office in order to get measures on the November ballot has passed. Various organizations collected signatures over the past months to legalize abortion, sports betting, increase the minimum wage, and mandate paid sick leave. One group, Missourians for Constitutional Freedom, submitted over 380,000 signatures to legalize abortion, despite previous challenges from Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft. Another organization, Winning for Missouri Education, received help from mascots of Missouri’s MLB and NHL teams to deliver 340,000 signatures for legalized sports betting. Additionally, more than 210,000 signatures were submitted to increase the minimum wage and mandate paid sick leave. The secretary of state’s office will now verify the signatures, with a deadline of August 6 to certify the petitions.
