Former President Donald Trump hosted a fundraising event at Mar-a-Lago with prominent Republicans in attendance who are being considered as potential running mates. Leaked audio from Axios revealed some hints about Trump’s potential choices, though a final decision is still a few months away.

Trump mentioned Senator Marco Rubio as a possible VP pick, but noted the potential issue of both being Florida residents, which could pose a problem according to the 12th Amendment. Other Florida candidates like Rep. Byron Donalds and Rep. Michael Waltz were also discussed for their political accomplishments.

Trump expressed a preference for diversity in his selection process, mentioning the appeal of candidates like Senator Tim Scott, Senator J.D. Vance, Rep. Elise Stefanik, Senator Mike Lee, Governor Doug Burgum, Senator Marsha Blackburn, and Rep. Wesley Hunt. Scott predicted Trump’s decision would be made within the next 60 days, in time for the Republican National Convention.

Overall, Trump praised the qualities and backgrounds of each potential candidate, highlighting their strengths and contributions in the political arena.
