Climate Activists Arrested for Defacing Palace of Versailles

Two radical activists advocating for climate change awareness were arrested after vandalizing France’s iconic Palace of Versailles with orange powder. The activists, belonging to the Riposte Alimentaire collective, targeted the Hall of Mirrors in the palace, a Baroque-style gallery that once symbolized French monarchy power.

According to reports from Le Figaro, the two activists were apprehended by Versailles police without causing any lasting damage to the palace or its artwork. In a statement, the Riposte Alimentaire group took responsibility for the act, stating that they aimed to draw attention to societal inequalities that allow a privileged minority to control resources while the majority suffers.

This incident is not the first time the group has targeted historical sites, as they previously threw soup at the “Mona Lisa” in the Louvre Museum and “Le Printemps” by Claude Monet in the Museum of Fine Arts in Lyon. Similar actions have been carried out by other climate activist groups across Europe, such as Just Stop Oil, who vandalized paintings in British and French museums with soup. These acts have sparked controversy and raised questions about the effectiveness of such protests in promoting environmental awareness.
