Hamas fires rockets close to primary humanitarian aid entrance

Hamas launched several projectiles toward the Kerem Shalom crossing between Israel and Gaza on Sunday, resulting in casualties. The Israel Defense Forces reported that ten projectiles were fired from Rafah in southern Gaza, leading to the temporary closure of the crossing for aid trucks. At least ten people were injured in the attack.

The IDF stated that Hamas fired the projectiles close to civilian shelters, prompting the Israeli air force to strike the launcher. The Kerem Shalom crossing is a vital entry point for humanitarian aid into Gaza, where the humanitarian situation continues to worsen, with Gaza facing a potential famine.

Despite efforts from Israel to increase aid delivery, concerns remain about the diversion of aid by Hamas. The United States has urged Israel to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian civilians, with President Joe Biden warning of potential conditions on future aid following an airstrike that killed aid workers.

There are ongoing discussions about entering Rafah in southern Gaza to confront Hamas forces, with the U.S. expressing concerns about potential civilian casualties. The U.S. hopes for a ceasefire agreement to prevent a ground invasion, as Hamas officials meet in Cairo to negotiate.

Israel and Hamas have struggled to reach a deal due to differing demands, including the duration of a ceasefire. Israel seeks a temporary agreement, while Hamas insists on a permanent end to the conflict.
