Animal services officers in Kansas City are currently investigating a horrific case of animal cruelty. KC Pet Project is currently caring for a dog named Artemis who was shot by someone with a crossbow. The dog was found with the arrow still embedded in her body, causing a deep puncture wound. Despite the severity of her injuries, Artemis is now recovering after receiving treatment from the clinic’s staff.

Pictures of Artemis’ wounds were shared on social media by the Pet Project, although they are extremely graphic. According to Tori Fugate, spokesperson for KC Pet Project, it took hours to safely remove the arrow from Artemis, who was found near Montgall Park. The dog miraculously survived the incident and is expected to make a full recovery.

Artemis is currently ready to be adopted, and investigators are actively seeking information about the person responsible for the cruel act. Anonymous tips regarding the shooter are encouraged, and donations are being accepted to cover the expenses of Artemis’ surgery. The Pet Project’s anonymous reporting phone and email address can be found here.
