In the early hours of Saturday morning, authorities in White County, Arkansas, discovered the body of a 17-year-old boy, later identified as Brendon Berryhill, following a fatal shooting.
According to police, Berryhill was shot multiple times in the middle of Salem Church Road after a deputy on patrol found the vehicle he was in with visible signs of trauma. Despite being declared dead, Berryhill’s body remained in the vehicle, which was later moved by a van before being left in the middle of the road.
The initial investigation led authorities to a crime scene at a Circle K gas station, where surveillance footage revealed Berryhill pulling into the station before another car parked beside him, resulting in a confrontation that ended with both suspects shooting at him before driving away.
Further investigation suggested that Berryhill was then driven to the Salem Church Road area by an unknown individual, possibly in a bid to contact someone close to him before losing consciousness and subsequently dying.
As police continued to process the evidence, a chase ensued with the suspects’ vehicle, which involved multiple agencies and led to multiple pursuits before ending in Crittenden County. The driver was taken into custody for traffic-related offenses.
The White County Sheriff’s Office said that while homicides are rare in their area, they have the experience and expertise to effectively investigate them. Officials have issued four arrest warrants, with two of the suspects currently in custody and assistance from the U.S. Marshals being sought for the remaining two suspects.
A weapon and a vehicle were recovered, and detectives are still gathering evidence. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the White County Sheriff’s Department at 501-279-6279.
