A man’s body was discovered buried in Hayward, California, after his alleged murderer shot him to death a few days earlier, according to the Hayward Police Department. The suspect, Andres Sanchez, 38, from Hayward, has been taken into custody, while the victim has not yet been identified.

The shooting occurred on April 26 when witnesses saw two men arguing on San Antonio and Hayman Streets in Hayward. One of the men grabbed a handgun and shot the other, but witnesses did not report the incident until two days later on April 28.

Sanchez was identified as a suspect, and on April 30, he was spotted riding an ATV near Tennyson Road and Leidig Court. After fleeing on his ATV and barricading himself in a garage in a residential neighborhood, Sanchez surrendered peacefully following negotiations with authorities.

Detectives later found the body of the victim with gunshot wounds near the original shooting area. The body had been concealed with dirt and debris, and formal identification procedures are being followed by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.

Sanchez was arrested for outstanding warrants, felony evasion, home invasion robbery, and murder. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information should contact Detective Scinto at 510-293-7176. This marks Hayward’s fourth homicide in 2024, according to HPD.
