A 1-year-old boy, dubbed the “miracle baby,” was found alive and well after surviving two days of rough weather conditions in Louisiana. The child was discovered by a truck driver who spotted him crawling along a roadside, just a day after his 4-year-old brother was found dead and their mother was arrested in Mississippi.
According to Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Gary “Stitch” Guillory, the baby was found in good condition, with only numerous bug bites. Autopsy results were pending on the 4-year-old, whose body was discovered in a lake behind an Interstate 10 welcome center near the Texas state line.
The investigation began when authorities learned that the 4-year-old and his mother, Aaliyah Jack, 25, of Lake Charles, were last seen together on Saturday. Fearing the 1-year-old was dead, authorities prepared to search the water where the dead child was found. However, a truck driver’s 911 call led to the baby’s discovery, and he was found alive and well.
Hurricane Beryl had struck east Texas earlier that day, making the search conditions challenging. The search continued amid intermittent heavy rain and high wind gusts, with authorities issuing an alert for law enforcement agencies and a warrant for Jack’s arrest.
Jack was eventually arrested in Meridian, Mississippi, more than 350 miles from where her children were found. She was taken into custody and was set to be extradited to Louisiana, where she faced a charge of failure to report a missing child. The judge who issued the warrant set bond at $300,000.
