Idaho college killings case: Legal teams persist in their battle within the courtroom

0:00

Legal teams in the Idaho college killings case are engaged in ongoing disputes in the courtroom, with the prosecution urging the judge to reject suspect Bryan Kohberger’s new alibi and the defense claiming that the prosecution has withheld crucial evidence.

Kohberger is facing four counts of murder in connection to the 2022 stabbing deaths of Idaho college students Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin.

One point of contention in the case is the alleged withholding of key audio evidence from the defense by the prosecution. Kohberger’s lead attorney, Anne Taylor, has argued that the defense has not been provided with a full video that supposedly shows the suspect’s vehicle on the night of the murders, indicating that important evidence has been kept from them.

Additionally, Kohberger’s new alibi defense, which claims he was out hiking and stargazing on the night of the killings, has also come under scrutiny. Prosecutors have urged the judge to reject this new alibi, arguing that it lacks the specificity required by state law.

The November 2022 stabbing deaths shocked the small town of Moscow, Idaho, and authorities eventually identified Kohberger as the suspect using familial DNA and other evidence. Pretrial hearings have seen Kohberger’s attorneys push for the case to be dismissed and argue for the release of sealed genealogy information.

Overall, the legal battles and disputes in the Idaho college killings case have led to frustration among the families of the victims, who are eagerly awaiting justice and closure.
