Angel Studios’ Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot has achieved record-breaking numbers in its opening weekend. Debuting on July 4th, the film grossed $3.5 million on its opening day, making it the studio’s second-best opening day performance to date, only behind last year’s successful Sound of Freedom.
The film went on to rake in an additional $3.2 million over the Independence Day weekend. Critics and audiences alike have lauded the film, with it receiving an impressive A+ rating from CinemaScore, as announced in a press release from the studio.

The film’s true story of 22 families taking in 77 vulnerable children has captured the hearts of viewers, and we’re confident that it will continue to grow and make an impact.”
The film tells the story of Donna Martin (Nika King) and her husband Bishop W.C. Martin (Demetrius Grosse), who adopt children from their church and inspire others to follow in their footsteps. The story centers on Terri (Diaana Babnicova), a 12-year-old girl who was abused in her original home before finding a new family with the Martins.
Nika King not only stars in the film but also served as one of its executive producers, alongside Joe Knittig, CEO of the Global Orphan Project, and Letitia Wright, known for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The release of Sound of Hope marks a significant milestone for Angel Studios, coming one year after the successful Sound of Freedom, which received a rare A+ rating from CinemaScore and grossed over $184 million in North America and $250 million globally.
