A recent survey by Leger revealed that President Joe Biden would not receive more votes even if former President Donald Trump is convicted of a crime. The survey showed Trump leading Biden by one point, with 46 percent support compared to Biden’s 45 percent. When respondents were asked how they would vote if Trump were convicted, Biden did not gain any of Trump’s voters, who instead moved to undecided.
In a scenario where Trump is found guilty and imprisoned, his support decreases to 37 percent while Biden’s support remains steady at 45 percent. However, 18 percent of respondents either do not know or would vote for someone else. Similarly, if Trump is found guilty without imprisonment, 39 percent would support him, while Biden’s support drops to 44 percent, with 18 percent undecided.
The survey also found that if Trump is not found guilty, he leads Biden by two percent, with 46 percent support as opposed to Biden’s 44 percent. In all scenarios, Biden does not see an increase in support regardless of Trump’s legal situation.
The survey was conducted among 1,008 American adults from April 26-28 and has a margin of error of +/- 3.09 percent. Another poll by Harvard-Harris also showed that cases of lawfare against Trump are not helping Biden’s favor, as voters are split on their support for Trump and Biden in different scenarios of legal convictions.
Trump has accused Democrats of using these legal cases as a way to interfere with his campaign, stating that they are attempting to prevent him from returning to the campaign trail.
