The Department of Justice has announced the indictment of U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar (D-TX) and his wife, Imelda, on charges of accepting bribes. Cuellar, who has represented Texas 28th Congressional District since 2005, is accused of receiving nearly $600,000 in bribes from an energy company in Azerbaijan. The bribes were allegedly laundered through sham consulting contracts and used to influence U.S. foreign policy and benefit a bank in Mexico City. Cuellar and his wife have denied the allegations and remain adamant in their innocence. They face a series of serious charges, including conspiracy to commit bribery and money laundering. The case is ongoing, and Cuellar continues to seek re-election this November.
