A newborn baby was miraculously found alive on a walking trail near a bayou in Harris County, Texas, after being abandoned by her unknown mother. The baby was discovered on June 15 by a family who happened to be walking the trail at the time.
A security camera captured footage of the abandonment, showing a young Hispanic or white man with a fair complexion and black hair leaving the baby on the trail. The suspect was last seen wearing a black shirt and gray pants. Authorities are still searching for the individual and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The baby, described as having fresh placenta, was found by a family who was taking a morning walk to cool off from the heat. “When I went ahead and looked closer, that’s when I noticed a little baby lying there, like, wiggling her two feet,” said Daniela Fedele, the woman who spotted the baby. “We make eye contact, and I’m like, how can somebody just do this?”
The family immediately called for medical assistance, and paramedics transported the baby to a nearby hospital. After being released from the hospital on Friday evening, the baby girl was placed with a foster family, according to reports.
Detectives continue to investigate the incident and are working to identify the individual responsible for leaving the baby on the trail. Anyone with information is encouraged to submit an anonymous online tip to Crime Stoppers of Houston or call 713-222-TIPS (8477).
