Neighbors in Florida on Edge Due to Monkey Sightings

0:00

Many residents in the Clermont and Groveland areas of Florida have reported seeing monkeys roaming their neighborhoods. Aime Krug, a resident of Clermont, was surprised to see a monkey on the roof of a house on Minnehaha Avenue. She mentioned that her experience living in India made monkeys less frightening to her. Video footage captured the monkey casually walking across the roof of a yellow house.

This monkey was also spotted in Groveland by residents and was identified as a rhesus macaque by a primate expert. Rhesus macaques were introduced to the Silver Springs State Park area in the 1930s, and their population has been increasing since then.

Law enforcement in Clermont confirmed reports from witnesses who saw the monkeys and advised residents to keep their distance as the animals are wild. Social media users shared their thoughts on the sightings, with some expressing surprise at the presence of monkeys in the area.

In a previous incident in 2022, a man from Ocala recorded monkeys diving into the water at Silver Springs State Park, describing the experience as chaotic.
