The Biden campaign has announced that it has raised over $28 million ahead of a star-studded fundraiser featuring actor George Clooney and other celebrities. The event, which will take place on Saturday, will also include appearances by actors Jack Black and Jason Bateman, actress Connie Britton, and singer Sheryl Lee Ralph, among others.
According to CBS News, the fundraiser will feature a moderated interview between Biden and former President Barack Obama, focusing on healthcare. The interview will be conducted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who has been a vocal advocate for the Affordable Care Act, passed during Obama’s presidency, after his newborn son underwent open-heart surgery in 2017.
The fundraiser comes as President Biden attends the G7 Summit in Italy. In a surprise move, Biden will be skipping a peace summit held by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to attend the fundraiser with Clooney and other celebrities. Instead, Vice President Kamala Harris and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan will represent the US at the peace summit in Ukraine.
The Biden campaign’s fundraising efforts come as the president’s approval ratings have hit an all-time low. According to recent polls, Biden’s approval rating stands at 37.6 percent, while his disapproval rating is 57 percent, resulting in a -19.4 percent net rating.
