Two suspects in Florida were arrested with the help of an airboat after trying to escape deputies by fleeing into a body of water, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
On June 5, 23-year-old Hylan Hill from Deltona and 24-year-old Edward Ross from Lake Helen evaded deputies twice, the second time going 65 mph in a 35 mph zone, the sheriff’s office reported on Facebook.
During the second pursuit, the suspects drove into a dead-end road without lights, hitting a parked vehicle before coming to a stop.
Following the crash, Hill and Ross allegedly ran into a body of water and tall grass nearby.
With assistance from aerial units, the sheriff’s office located the suspects, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission used an airboat to help with the arrest.
Inside the suspects’ vehicle, deputies found a firearm with an extended magazine, a Glock switch, and a .22 Uzi pistol, the sheriff’s office shared.
Hill faces charges for various offenses including fleeing from law enforcement, possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, and driving with a suspended license, and is currently held without bond at the Volusia County Branch Jail. Ross is charged with resisting arrest, evidence tampering, possession of cannabis, and violation of probation, also held without bond.
The female passenger in the vehicle was detained and later released without charges, according to the sheriff’s office.
