Following the release of new footage showing Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) acknowledging that she should have requested National Guard support at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, the former House Speaker stated Monday on MSNBC’s “Deadline” that former President Donald Trump and his supporters are attempting to rewrite the history of that day’s events at the U.S. Capitol.

Pelosi remarked, “The reality is that the former president and his enablers do not wish to confront the facts. They are attempting to revise the history of January 6. We must not allow ourselves to be swayed by their misleading portrayal of what transpired that day. They are fully aware of the gravity of the situation and its lasting effects on our nation, and yet they audaciously label the individuals present as hostages. Last night, I had the honor of receiving the Lincoln Award, and during my acceptance speech, I mentioned that Lincoln commissioned the Capitol dome during the Civil War to symbolize America’s resilience.”

Pelosi continued, “I recently returned from the 80th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, where I met veterans, some as young as 97 and others over 100. These individuals fought for our freedom, yet it is being disparaged by the former president and his Republican followers.”
