The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has added a group run by gay individuals to its “hate map” due to the group’s opposition to the transgendering of children.
This year, the SPLC accused multiple medical and Christian organizations, as well as family advocates, of being “hate groups” over their opposition to certain aspects of the LGBTQ agenda, especially transgenderism.
In its report issued on June 4, the SPLC stated that it had documented 86 active anti-LGBTQ+ hate groups in 2023—about 33% higher than the previous year, marking the highest number ever recorded by the SPLC.
The SPLC added several new entries to its “Hate Map,” including organizations like Advocates Protecting Children in Virginia, the California Policy Council, the Center for Christian Virtue in Ohio, the Child and Parent Rights Campaign in Georgia, the Family Action Council of Tennessee, the Florida Family Policy Council, Frontline Policy Council in Georgia, the Louisiana Family Forum, Massachusetts Family Institute, the Montana Family Foundation, the Pennsylvania Family Institute, and the Family Foundation of Virginia.
Additionally, the SPLC listed a group managed by gay Americans called Gays Against Groomers on its “Hate Map” this year. This group was started in 2022 as an X account by leader Jaimee Michell, who voiced concerns over the left’s attempts to sexualize younger children to promote the extremist LGBTQ agenda. Michell publicly opposed drag queen story hours in schools and libraries, criticized highly sexualized books in school libraries, and condemned the medical transgendering of small children.
Last year, Michell spoke before the political activist group Moms For Liberty, revealing that many gay individuals quietly oppose the radical LGBTQ agenda.
“The truth is, we never consented to pornographic filth being given to children in schools. We never consented to woke doctors sterilizing and mutilating children in our name. We never consented to radical trans activists taking over and speaking on our behalf,” she said.
“Not only is this agenda hurting children, but us as well. The radicals who have hijacked our community are setting us back decades with their assault on children,” Michell continued. “The acceptance we as gays and lesbians fought to achieve in this country is now being erased seemingly overnight, and it’s devastating for us to watch happen.”
This marks the person whom the SPLC identifies as the principal representative of a “hate group.”
Unfortunately, the SPLC is often regarded by the media as the primary authority on defining a hate group, which contradicts one of journalism’s main principles of verifying facts from multiple sources. The SPLC operates as a singular group with no other organization tracking “hate groups.” Even the FBI does not provide lists of hate groups for public tracking. As a result, the media frequently echo the SPLC’s partisan claims, presenting their “hate group” labels as facts rather than recognizing them as activist assertions.
