Arizona GOP Launches Lawsuit Against Secretary of State Over Voter Registration Issues

The Arizona Republican Party and the Arizona Free Enterprise Club have initiated legal proceedings against Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes.

These organizations allege that Fontes has committed multiple violations of the National Voter Registration Act, as detailed in a social media post on X. The lawsuit addresses purported issues within the state’s voter registration system, including claims of ineligible voters being listed on Arizona’s voter rolls.

“Accurate voter rolls are the bedrock of our constitutional republic,” noted Gina Swoboda, Chair of the Arizona Republican Party. “The rampant presence of ineligible voters on our rolls is unacceptable and undermines the trust Arizonans place in our electoral process.”

The lawsuit’s research highlights discrepancies showing Arizona has between 500,000 to 1.27 million invalid registrations, including deceased individuals and people who have moved out of the state. Moreover, some counties reportedly have “outrageous voter registration rates,” with some lists exceeding “100% of eligible voters.”

“The AZGOP and the Arizona Free Enterprise Club are demanding the immediate implementation of an effective voter list maintenance program to comply with NVRA mandates,” declared a statement on the Republican Party of Arizona’s X account.

The legal action seeks court intervention to clean the voter rolls and establish a robust system to prevent future discrepancies, as per the social media post. The lawsuit asks the court to rule that Fontes violated the National Voter Registration Act, implement voter roll maintenance programs, and issue an injunction to enforce compliance by the state.

“Our findings reveal a staggering number of counties with more registered voters than eligible citizens,” commented Scot Musi, president of the Arizona Free Enterprise Club. “This is a clear indication of a system in disarray. We are holding Adrian Fontes accountable to ensure fair and credible elections in Arizona.”
