Opening arguments will be delivered Tuesday in the Delaware trial of Hunter Biden on gun charges, marking the first prosecution of a sitting U.S. president’s child.
The 54-year-old stands accused of providing false information regarding his illegal drug use during the purchase of a handgun in 2018, a felony offense.
A 12-member jury with four alternates was selected on Monday for the federal trial being held in Wilmington, the Biden family’s hometown, according to AP reports.
The judge and attorneys from both sides interviewed dozens of potential jurors to evaluate their impartiality.
It took just one day to assemble the jury of six men and six women, plus four female alternates. The final panel of 12 was chosen from approximately 65 candidates. Their identities were not disclosed.

The president did not attend the trial but stated that he and Jill were “proud” of Hunter, a Yale-trained lawyer and part-time lobbyist-turned-artist.
In 2023, Hunter rejected a plea bargain from prosecutors after discussions fell apart under the scrutiny of a “diversion agreement,” according to news reports.
