Multiple reports suggest that Hollywood director Steven Spielberg is collaborating with President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign and is involved in planning the Democratic National Convention. Puck News’s Matt Belloni initially reported that Spielberg has been actively working with the campaign to help organize the convention in Chicago. This information was further confirmed by Deadline and the Hollywood Reporter.
According to the reports, Spielberg is participating in strategy sessions to effectively communicate the president’s story. Despite Spielberg’s representatives not responding to comment requests, a source mentioned that the director is keen on supporting the president as he believes this election is crucial.
This is not the first time Spielberg has assisted a Democratic candidate or been involved in a convention. He previously helped with the 2020 convention and produced a film for President Obama’s campaign in 2008. It is noteworthy that Biden campaign co-chair Jeffrey Katzenberg was Spielberg’s former partner at Dreamworks, and they maintain a friendship.
As Spielberg’s involvement in the convention surfaced, concerns have arisen about potential protests, particularly related to the Israel-Palestine conflict. The 1968 convention in Chicago was rife with protests over the Vietnam War, with thousands arrested. Organizers predict that the upcoming convention could see a significant number of protesters.
