The Financial Times reported Friday that Jon Benjamin was traveling in Sinaloa and Durango, two states in northern Mexico with a significant presence of drug cartels, when the incident took place.
The British ambassador to Mexico is no longer in position after a video surfaced online of him seemingly pointing an assault rifle at an embassy employee in Mexico.

Though the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has not officially announced any changes at the embassy in Mexico City, the FCDO website lists him as a former ambassador.
Rachel Brazier has been serving as charge d’affaires at the embassy since April, a role where a diplomat acts as the chief of mission in the absence of the ambassador.
