The Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins revealed that the widely-followed biblical crowdfunded series focusing on the life of Jesus Christ will debut its fourth season starting this weekend.

“I’m thrilled to inform you that Episode One of Season Four will premiere this Sunday at 7 p.m. Eastern time,” Jenkins disclosed in a YouTube video addressed to fans on Wednesday. “As mentioned, we will release two episodes each week.”

Season Four’s Episode One will be available to stream online for free on The Chosen app and its social media accounts this Sunday. The next episode will stream on Thursday, June 6 at 8:30 p.m. Eastern. Additional episodes will follow on Sunday and Thursday nights over the next month.

This season was initially showcased in theaters globally starting in February. However, after an extended wait, it will now be available for online streaming. Jenkins provided some context behind the delay in releasing the new season online.

In the YouTube announcement, Jenkins expressed his appreciation for Angel Studios’ role in launching the show but noted some differences with Angel Studios regarding their contract and business arrangements. He recounted how The Chosen and Angel Studios parted ways to become two distinct apps, eventually resolving their issues through a private arbitrator.

“Both Angel and The Chosen aim for this show to reach over a billion people and to be sustainable. However, we have significant differences of opinion on how to achieve this and what our future should look like,” he elaborated.

Jenkins added, “Good people can disagree.”

“Currently, our contract with Angel Studios has ended, and the only place to watch Season Four is on our livestreams via our social media and The Chosen app, or on DVD. Furthermore, the only way to support The Chosen financially is by donating to Come and See or by purchasing gifts,” the director stated.

Jenkins expressed gratitude to Angel Studios and specifically to the studio executives Neal, Jordan, and Jeffrey Harmon, referred to as the Harmon Brothers, for their “extraordinary efforts in helping launch this show.”

Jenkins has been transparent about how The Chosen is a pioneering film project, financially backed by viewers rather than Hollywood’s traditional big studio budgets.

He initiated The Chosen series in 2017, inspired to create a multi-season biblical drama while filming a short biblical film. His short film attracted the attention of forward-thinking film executives who now manage Angel Studios, and they correctly anticipated the series would be a massive success.

The show has emerged as one of the most-watched globally, with over 200 million viewers, consistently ranking as a favorite on various streaming platforms, including Amazon Prime, Peacock, and Netflix.
