President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is acknowledging that migrants arriving at the southern border often “try to game” the nation’s asylum system to gain entry into the United States.
Mayorkas made this admission during an interview with CBS News. This is noteworthy, as both Biden and Mayorkas have historically attempted to minimize the national security, economic, and social impacts of large-scale illegal immigration to the U.S.
Despite this admission, Biden’s DHS continues to release tens of thousands of migrants into the U.S. interior every few weeks, particularly through a parole pipeline. Since January 2023, this pipeline has welcomed more than a million migrants into American communities.
A January Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report found that over approximately three years, DHS has admitted about 6.2 million migrants into the U.S. through its broad Catch and Release network at the southern border.
