Actor Johnny Wactor tragically passed away early Saturday after being shot by three men suspected of stealing the catalytic converter from his car.

Wactor, 37, witnessed three men surrounding his vehicle while he was with a coworker in downtown Los Angeles, California, according to his mother Scarlett’s account to TMZ. Despite not resisting the suspects, he was shot and later succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital.

Authorities have yet to apprehend any suspects in connection with the shooting.

Catalytic converters, which are crucial for filtering engine exhaust, are often targeted for theft due to the valuable precious metals they contain.

“Absolutely heartbroken while typing this,” co-star Ashton Arbab wrote on X. “Johnny Wactor was not only my TV dad for more than 25 episodes on General Hospital, but he was a great human, a kind soul, an inspiration, and a one-of-a-kind actor. May your soul rest in peace. Heaven gained an Angel.”

“When the tears slow down, I am literally sick to my stomach at this news. Johnny was one of those rare young men in this business who was kind, unassuming, humble, and always thought about other people,” fellow actor Jon Lindstrom wrote. “A talented young guy who just wanted to share that talent with the world. I wish I had enough love to fill the hole that his loved ones must feel right now, but I know that’s impossible. Johnny will be missed on this plane. For a long time to come. R.I.P.

The actor also had notable roles on Westworld, Station 19, and others. His longest stint was his over 160-episode arc on General Hospital.

Wactor is survived by his brothers Lance and Grant.
