Angel Studios’s recent film, SIGHT, has garnered high praise, crossing the $1 million mark during its opening weekend.

SIGHT focuses on the journey of eye surgeon Dr. Ming Wang, who navigated his upbringing in China during the Cultural Revolution, succeeded at Harvard and MIT, and revolutionized cataract treatment through LASIK surgery. Dr. Wang is the founder of the Wang Vision Institute and the Wang Foundation for Sight Restoration, a charitable organization.

The film holds a flawless 100% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is ranked 70th for 2024 film releases in terms of initial earnings, a significant feat for a studio that relies heavily on crowd-funding. Angel Studios’ top-grossing film to date, Sound of Freedom, was released last year, securing the sixth spot overall for 2023 with $250 million in box office receipts.

The film features Emmy-winning actors Greg Kinnear and Fionnula Flanagan. Given its partial setting in China, a substantial portion of the cast is Asian. Brandon Purdie, Angel Studios’ Head of Theatrical Distribution, emphasized the film’s timely release.

“This is a film embraced by both Chinese and American audiences, as it speaks to the universal theme of overcoming our past,” Purdie explained. “We are privileged to release this film during Asian American and Pacific Islander Month and are confident that its message will leave a lasting impact on viewers.”

Angel Studios boasts a community of over 100,000 Guild members in 155 countries who have contributed approximately $80 million toward various projects. These members also play a crucial role in voting on future film projects. The studio evolved from VidAngel, a company known for its film and series filtering services, and officially became Angel Studios in 2021.

Additionally, Angel Studios distributes the popular series The Chosen, which chronicles the life of Jesus Christ.
