Tim Scott: Trump’s VP Choice Will Focus on Voter Concerns

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) stated that former President Donald Trump’s choice for vice president will be driven by the issues faced by voters every day.

Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has not yet announced his 2024 running mate but has hinted in interviews that the decision will come “closer to Wisconsin time,” referring to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee this July. Scott, who is rumored to be a potential candidate for the role, was asked what he might bring to the position.

“Well, I don’t think it’s about the who, it’s about the what,” Scott said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. “It’s about the issues that the American people face. I gotta say without any question, if we’re going to talk about who, it’s Kamala Harris. Kamala Harris, the border czar, has allowed the greatest invasion in American history. Kamala Harris, working on the economy, with the pandering tour of Joe Biden, seeing the devastation across this nation. Kamala Harris working with Joe Biden on issues of the Middle East, literally standing in opposition to our strongest ally, Israel.”

Scott emphasized the importance of discussing the American dream with voters, saying that it demonstrates the possibility of starting a business. He added that if he were Trump’s vice presidential pick, he would highlight the need for four more years of Trump in office “not for the vice president, but for the American people.”

During his interview, Scott also criticized the inflation that has affected voters under Biden’s leadership, noting that people in his home state are paying over $25,000 “for the same things they could buy under President Trump.”

Apart from Scott, other rumored candidates for Trump’s vice presidential pick include Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL), J.D. Vance (R-OH), Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), and former Hawaii Democrat Tulsi Gabbard. Trump has confirmed that former United Nations ambassador and 2024 Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley is not on his shortlist.

With less than six months before the presidential election on Nov. 5, Vice President Kamala Harris has accepted an invitation from CBS News to debate Trump’s vice presidential candidate. This debate, like the presidential ones, would be broadcast in the studio without a live audience, scheduled for either July 23 or Aug. 13, according to the Biden campaign.

Meanwhile, Biden and Trump have agreed to debate each other on CNN on June 27, with a second debate on ABC on Sept. 10.

Recent polling data has shown that younger voters aged 18-30 trust Trump slightly more than Biden on reducing prices and securing the southern border. Half of these voters identified lowering prices as their top financial concern, compared to 26% who want higher wages and 15% who seek more jobs.
