The UAE has bought 18 acres of land along the Potomac River in northern Virginia for $55 million in order to build a compound. The three adjacent lots, numbered 1019, 1049, and 1079, located in McLean, were purchased by the UAE government in 2022 from a trust connected to Richard L. Adams Jr., the founder of UUNet Technologies. Plans have been filed with the Fairfax County Department of Planning and Zoning to construct a “single diplomatic residence” on each lot for UAE officials to host family members and friends. The properties will have various amenities including an exercise building with a yoga studio, massage room, boxing studio, weightlifting rooms, and a juice bar. This new purchase follows a previous acquisition of land on Crest Lane in 2006 for $11 million by the UAE.
