The man who assaulted Nancy Pelosi’s husband has been sentenced to 30 years in prison. David DePape was found guilty of attacking Paul Pelosi with a hammer at their California residence. He was also convicted of attempting to kidnap Nancy Pelosi, although she was not present at the time. The Department of Justice recommended a sentence of 30 years, stating that it was necessary due to the violent nature of the attack.

Federal prosecutors suggested a 20-year sentence for attempted kidnapping and a 30-year sentence for assault, totaling 40 years in custody. DePape, a former nudist activist from Canada, intended to speak to Nancy about Russian interference in the 2016 election but encountered Paul instead. During his testimony, DePape expressed regret for hurting Paul.

Video footage showed DePape wielding a hammer at Paul, causing a skull fracture and other injuries. Despite DePape’s lack of criminal history, the judge noted the brutality of the attack. DePape’s sentencing highlights the consequences of his violent actions.
