In a shocking and devastating incident, a 33-year-old woman, Brandi Elliott, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder after allegedly drowning her 7-year-old daughter in Drakes Creek, Tennessee, on July 13.

The Hendersonville Police Department received a report of a child drowning near the 200 block of Sanders Ferry Road and dispatched detectives to the scene. Upon investigation, authorities determined that Elliott was responsible for the child’s death.

According to court documents, Elliott claimed she needed alone time after a rough day and took her daughter to a greenway across the street. When her daughter refused to leave her alone, Elliott reportedly held her underwater “like a large mouth bass” in a shallow area of the creek until she felt the child’s struggles cease.

Elliott then pulled her daughter from the water, attempted to revive her with CPR, and realized her actions were wrong. The girl was taken to a Hendersonville hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 11:45 pm.

Elliott was interviewed by investigators at the Hendersonville Police Department and is currently being held at the Sumner County Jail. The police are seeking any information about the incident and have released a statement asking anyone with details to contact them at 615-265-5303 or Hendersonville Crime Stoppers at 615-594-4113.
