Border Patrol agents captured nearly 129,000 migrants who crossed the southwest border illegally in April, a slight decrease from the over 137,000 captured in March. According to an unofficial Border Patrol report seen by Breitbart Texas, the agents working in the nine southwest border sectors apprehended almost 1.2 million migrants in Fiscal Year 24, which started on October 1, 2023. Despite the drop in April apprehensions, the total for the year is still expected to surpass last year’s total of 2.046 million migrants, making it the third consecutive year with over two million apprehensions under the Biden administration.
In comparison, during Fiscal Year 2020, in President Donald Trump’s final year in office, only 400,651 migrants were apprehended by Border Patrol agents. The San Diego Sector led in April with over 37,000 apprehensions, followed by the Tucson Sector with over 31,000 apprehensions. El Paso Sector agents also caught more than 30,000 migrants in April, while Del Rio saw apprehensions drop to just over 10,000 migrants.
On the Canadian border, the Swanton Sector recorded a significant increase in apprehensions. In April, agents in the Swanton Sector, which covers parts of New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire, apprehended nearly 1,500 migrants, double the number from April 2023. The year-to-date total for Swanton is over 6,600 migrants, almost 100 percent higher than last year.
