Two teenagers in California were awarded over $1 million in a lawsuit against their elite Catholic school for wrongfully expelling them over a “blackface” selfie that was actually a skincare mask. The boys, referred to as A.H. and H.H., took a selfie with a face mask on to support a friend with acne. The photo went viral years later and led to their expulsion during the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests. The school did not offer a hearing or consider evidence before kicking them out. The teens were awarded $500,000 each and tuition reimbursement. The school intends to appeal the verdict.
